I cannot thank you enough for your interview with Horacio Hernandez. I was so taken with his story and his passion for the instrument, that after almost 20 years of not playing, I’ve picked up sticks once again. I’m happy to say that for the most part it really is like riding a bike...although the tires are a little flat and the chain a little rusty!
And now that I’m playing again, let me also say thank you for the great CD and material to study. I can see I’m going to be busy for a very long time.
Cheers,
Jonathan,
Your interview with “El Negro” was so good - you were able to show his character. I felt like I was reading the next installment of Howard Roark’s life in The Fountainhead, simply riveting and about 1000 pages too short: depth, clarity, humanity. Good literature/thinking will produce that.
You could start a revolution of drummers that want something more - not more money, not more fame, but more creation from themselves. Truly an excellent piece.
I just found your magazine and it is fantastic! I am 47, started to take lessons, and have been playing drums for almost a year now. I’m totally hooked!
I’m just reading your current issue and the articles are great. I recently saw Maroon 5 in Vancouver, and Phil Collins has always been someone I have admired. Keep up the great work.
Thanks,
Thank you for your extremely kind words. I myself, a big fan of TheFountainhead (and Atlas Shrugged) can absolutely relate. Hanging with “El Negro” was special and inspiring for me as well. I even went out and bought my very own mbira. Talk about a revolution!

This is the first time I’m writing a magazine to tell them how well they’re doing. There’s something different about your magazine compared to the others. I think the best way to describe it is Drumhead is a drummer’s magazine with some ads, the others are ad magazines with some drumming articles.
Keep up the good work. I like your selection of subjects and your style of interviewing.
Take it easy,
My comment for the drummer’s health column is as follows: Now if only I had seen this article 20 years ago. I speak as a still practicing 40 something drummer who has come through bilateral carpal tunnel surgery and a spontaneous thumb flexor tendon rupture (while setting up for a gig- still played for 2 hours as well- now that’s rock and roll!) and can only wholeheartedly agree with every word written here.
I was lucky in that my various surgeries have left me still able to play as well as I could before - some would argue that’s not great a thing - but it’s always better to avoid conditions rather than treat them.
Look after your hands, arms and wrists and they will look after you!
More Mattacks please! Thank you for the lessons and the great Face2Face article.
Dave has always been one of my favorite players and it’s about time the rest of the world knew more about this amazing drummer. In my opinion, he’s right up there with Vinnie and the rest of the best.
Thanks,
I couldn’t agree with you more, and more Mattacks is on the way!
I really, really enjoyed your Issue 6 (Holiday Issue 2007). The interviewers knew their stuff, and the subjects gave great copy. Long live Bruford, Bisquera, Barlow and Newmark, and any other eccentrics we can model our lives by!
I hope your mag is a go, and I’ll look for it on the shelves again (and I’m not even a drummer!).
Love it! Just re-upped my subscription! Great magazine and thank you for all of your hard work!
